One of the most enjoyable aspects of being a fan is looking back at some of the greats that have put on your favourite team’s jersey. Every team has players that seem larger than life – players that are more important to the team, and the fans. One way of quantifying who these players are is to look at the all-time franchise point leaders. Recently I have spent a lot of time following where current Flames rank in terms of all-time contribution to the team. In order to do this, I have made a list of all-time franchise points leaders and active team points leaders. Here we can see how current players are making their mark on their franchise’s history. All numbers are pulled from Hockeyrefrence.com as so any mistakes, or oddities from their website have been copied here. All active stats are as of November 25.

Some noticeables in that data:

  • There are three total point leaders that are still active (and one of them is William Karlsson of the Golden Knights, which doesn’t really count. The only other two are Ovechkin and Mikko Koivu of the Minnesota Wild)
  • Brendan Gallagher of the Montreal Canadiens is the active points leader but is 57th all time, almost 1000 points behind the leader Guy Lafleur
  • Gordie Howe has the most points with one franchise with 1809
  • Ray Bourque is the only defenceman to lead his franchise in points, and saying as it’s the Boston Bruins, one of the oldest franchises in the league, that is pretty impressive
