Scott Foster: Beer League Legend

One of the great things about being a goalie is that you’re always in demand. If you’re decent enough you can play hockey for free every night if you want. On Thursday, 36 year old accountant/target Scott Foster played some free hockey. Only instead of dealing with weak beer league defense and 4 on 0 odd man rushes, he was staring down Patrick Laine and Dustin Byfuglien.

CHICAGO, IL - MARCH 29: Chicago Blackhawks goalie Scott Foster (90), serving as emergency goalie after signing a one day amateur tryout (ATO) contract, defends his goal in the 3rd period during an NHL hockey game between the Winnipeg Jets and the Chicago Blackhawks on March 29, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, IL. So what does he do? Oh just 7 saves on 7 shots to hold on for a 6-2 win in an actual NHL game, no big deal. His best 2 saves came on a high glove wrister from Bufuglien in the slot and a point blank one timer from Laine to Stastny.

Unbelievable. As a goalie I was nervous enough for him just watching that I could have puked. His new teammates did a great job keeping pucks to the outside and blocking shots for him. It also probably helped that he had a four goal cushion to play with but there’s no way he was not freaking out.

All and all it was a night most of us can only dream of for Scott. The worst part? Chicago had to hop on a plane to Denver to play the Avalanche Friday so he likely missed out on the second best part of being a goalie sub, free post game beers.
